The 2024 NFL Draft is still months away, but the debate surrounding Caleb Williams and what the Chicago Bears should do with their first overall pick has already been heating up.

Former Chicago Bear, Pittsburgh Steeler, and long-time NFL analyst Merril Hoge was asked about Caleb Williams and Justin Fields this week and did not hold back. On Caleb Williams, Hoge had to say this:

"The one thing that is clear: he is not special. He is not something unique like a Patrick Mahomes. And I hope the Bears don't think, 'Well, let's try to make up for our mistake when we passed up Patrick Mahomes and go get the Patrick Mahomes.' The kid is not Patrick Mahomes. Ain't even remotely close to that."

In the full video below, Hoge goes on to share his thoughts on Justin Fields as well.

Hoge believes that Justin Fields made great strides with the Bears, despite all of the coordinator and coaching changes around him. Hoge believes, "There's enough growth and hope there that I would not…let him go because I see enough there."

There will continue to be plenty of debate as to what the Chicago Bears should do with the first overall pick, and what other teams could do if they trade into that first overall slot. For now, Caleb Williams seems to be the easy consensus first pick by many, but Merril Hoge is certainly not in agreement with that.
