The 2024 NFL postseason has come to a close for the Kansas City Chiefs with the team taking home their third Super Bowl title in the past five seasons.

After some celebration, they'll soon turn their focus to the 2024 NFL offseason as they construct their team for a shot at a three-peat. Brett Veach and the front office will have some difficult decisions to make as several key pieces are expected to hit free agency this offseason.

Some players will receive contract extensions, others could choose to retire from the NFL. Many have likely played their last snap for the team and will be scooped up by other teams in free agency. One thing is for certain, they don't have the means to keep everybody around.

Below you’ll find a look at all of the 2024 free agents for the Chiefs:

Unrestricted free agents: 21

If unrestricted free agents (UFAs) are not re-signed by the onset of the new league year in March, they're free to sign with any team upon the onset of the free agency period. The Chiefs have quite a few players slated for unrestricted free agency this year, including several key players.

  1. CB L’Jarius Sneed
  2. DT Chris Jones
  3. DE Mike Danna
  4. LB Willie Gay Jr.
  5. QB Blaine Gabbert
  6. WR Richie James
  7. RB Jerick McKinnon
  8. DT Derrick Nnadi
  9. S Mike Edwards
  10. LB Drue Tranquill
  11. LT Donovan Smith
  12. WR Mecole Hardman
  13. RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire
  14. P Tommy Townsend
  15. DT Tershawn Wharton
  16. OG Nick Allegretti
  17. TE Blake Bell
  18. S Deon Bush
  19. LB Darius Harris
  20. LS James Winchester
  21. OT Prince Tega Wanogho

Restricted free agents: 1

Restricted Free Agents (RFAs) are players with three accrued seasons and an expired contract. They are allowed to negotiate with other teams even if they’re offered an RFA contract tender. Those other teams can sign the RFA to an offer sheet, but the Chiefs would then have the right to match the offer. If KC decides against matching the offer, depending on the tender type, they can receive draft compensation for the player.

The only restricted free agent for Kansas City this offseason is TE Jody Fortson, who spent the 2023 NFL season on injured reserve.

Exclusive rights free agents: 5

Exclusive Rights Free Agents (ERFAs) are free agents who have yet to accrue three seasons in the NFL. Kansas City holds exclusive negotiating rights with their ERFAs. If an ERFA is tendered a qualifying contract offer before free agency, that player can't refuse that offer. That player can reach unrestricted free agency only if the team does not give a qualifying offer.

The Chiefs have five exclusive rights free agents this offseason.

  1. CB Nazeeh Johnson
  2. LB Jack Cochrane
  3. EDGE Malik Herring
  4. LB Cole Christiansen
  5. OL Mike Caliendo

What about the Chiefs' practice squad players?

Practice squad contracts expire no later than one week after the conclusion of Super Bowl LVIII. The Chiefs have 16 players on the practice squad and one player on the practice squad's injured list.

  1. DT Isiah Buggs
  2. TE Matt Bushman
  3. S Trey Dean III
  4. DT Matt Dickerson
  5. TE Izaiah Gathings
  6. OT Jason Godrick
  7. RB Keaontay Ingram
  8. DE Truman Jones
  9. OT Darian Kinnard
  10. QB Chris Oladokun
  11. DT Mike Pennel
  12. WR Cornell Powell
  13. RB Deneric Prince
  14. C Austin Reiter
  15. CB Keith Taylor
  16. WR Montrell Washington
  17. TE Gerrit Prince (PS-injured)

Expect the majority of these players to re-sign with Kansas City on reserve/future contracts.
