Cleveland Browns’ biggest rival within the division could soon have a new quarterback and a possible name being floated around is less than ideal for a couple of reasons.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter was on The Pat McAfee show and revealed that the Steelers will be making some kind of move at the most important position in football.
“Pittsburgh gets some type of quarterback, said Adam Schefter during Monday's edition of the Pat McAfee Show. "Whether that's Ryan Tannehill, Russell Wilson, or Justin Fields — Mike Tomlin is a big fan of Justin Fields, we'll keep that in mind during the offseason and coming weeks, They're not just going to leave it as Kenny Pickett's starting job."
It seemed unlikely that the Steelers would run it back with Pickett as the guy. The former first-round pick has just 13 touchdown passes in two seasons (25 games). Trading for Fields, who could be on his way out with Caleb Williams potentially landing in Chicago, may just be the recipe for the Steelers.
Fields ending up in Pittsburgh would instantly make them better and elevate their offense. The Steelers have a solid running-back tandem, then you add in a quarterback who is a 1,000 yard guy himself. While it would be ideal to draft a quarterback, the Steelers won’t be in a position to do so early, so a trade could be the move.
Many Cleveland fans are Ohio State fans by location, it’s just how it works. Fields starred at Ohio State in 2019 and 2020. Fans would go from cheering him on in Columbus and even with the Bears, to now having to root against him.
There is at least some substance here too with it being pointed out that Tomlin is a fan of Fields, which already checks one box off.
In 2024, the Browns will likely face a new quarterback for the Steelers twice. Pittsburgh should take a step forward and that will be the theme of the Browns’ 2024 schedule, a lot of improved teams.
Browns disrespected by oddsmakers when it comes to who will win the next Super Bowl
Not an ideal spot for Cleveland.
