Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has had a lot of success in a very short amount of time in the NFL.

It would be easy for him to get high on himself and take all the credit, but as he has shown over and over again, that isn't his character. Mahomes is quick to give credit to his teammates and coaches for the Chiefs' success and blames himself when things go wrong.

While speaking to the media on "Super Bowl Opening Night" on Monday, Mahomes acknowledged that he stepped into an ideal situation when K.C. drafted him in 2017.

He's right about being fortunate to be drafted by a talented Chiefs team with a future Hall of Fame coach. K.C. has had an explosive and complete offense for most of Mahomes' career. Not all great players would admit that because it could discredit their own talent and create a narrative that they're only successful due to the talent around them.

Mahomes has never had that insecurity, and for good reason. He's taken the Chiefs to heights the team has never reached before. Tight end Travis Kelce and receiver Tyreek Hill both had career years with Mahomes as their QB. Mahomes has also played with a couple of dreadful defenses, particularly the one in 2018 that was historically bad.

These last two seasons have also dispelled any thoughts of Mahomes being overly reliant on his weapons. The Chiefs traded away Hill in 2022, who was still very much in his prime, and Mahomes went on to win NFL MVP and the Super Bowl. And, of course, K.C. is in the Super Bowl yet again this year despite having the worst offense and receiving corps of Mahomes' career.

Mahomes also spoke about how hard he works so that he doesn't mess up the tremendous situation that he walked into. We've seen a lot of talented players throughout the history of the league go through the motions and coast because of the talent around them. Like most all-time great athletes, Mahomes is driven by results and knows no other effort than all out.
