The speculation surrounding the possibility of the Baltimore Ravens signing Derrick Henry in free agency has been mounting as of late.
The Ravens are being deemed as the betting favorites to sign Henry, who will become an unrestricted free agent in March. It was just three months ago that Baltimore was linked with Henry ahead of this past season’s NFL trade deadline, but the veteran running back ended up staying put in Tennessee for the remainder of the campaign.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler noted during a recent appearance on Pressbox’s "Glenn Clark Radio" show that he believes that Henry is "one of the backs" who Baltimore has "studied." However, not everyone sees that the four-time Pro Bowler would be a viable fit in the Lamar Jackson-led Ravens offense.
"After asking around, though, I think the fit could be difficult because he's so I-formation heavy in his career and the Ravens do so much out of the gun," Fowler said. "So, not that it can't work or that Henry couldn't adjust, and certainly, he would be crucial for them on short yardage, tough downs, dictating the pace of the game, red zone, all those things."
Fowler did go on to add that he thinks Henry "is on the radar" for Baltimore.
As Fowler touched on, one can not deny the value that Henry would bring to Baltimore’s offense in vital on-field situations. It will all just depend on whether Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta will go all out to sign him in the coming month.
