Life for the Carolina Panthers and Brian Burns is unsteady at best.

The franchise will decide as to whether to franchise tag him soon. Carolina will do so, barring anything monumental happening.

However, one national NFL writer is predicting the Panthers may lose out on Burns to an NFC foe.

Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports predicts that Burns will end up on the Washington Commanders by the end of NFL free agency.

"A reunion with Kirk Cousins would be intriguing, but presuming they address quarterback in the actual draft, the Dan Quinn-led Commanders instead look to replenish their stripped-down pass rush with the best edge presence available," Benjamin writes.

If Burns leaves for nothing, that would be devasting for the Panthers' defense, which was the lone bright spot of the 2023 season.

Burns, however, had a down year. The contract talks and injuries clearly got to him. Still, he remains one of the Panthers' best pass rushers, and Carolina knows it.

He should be franchise-tagged. But time will tell if Burns is tagged and traded or suits up for the Panthers again in 2024.
