As if the Cleveland Browns’ loss to the Houston Texans doesn’t already look bad enough, one interesting note makes it look worse following the 45-14 beating.
The Browns owe Houston their first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Being knocked out by the team that you have to hand a first-round pick is tough.
Cleveland traded three first-round picks and more to the Texans for Deshaun Watson two offseasons ago. The Browns are still paying their dues from that move.
The future is bright in Houston and it is in large part to what they received for Watson. So far, Houston has drafted DE Will Anderson Jr., WR Tank Dell, and G Kenyon Green with picks from Cleveland.
It is not hard to see that Houston has won the trade to this point. Watson has yet to play more than six games in a season over two seasons in Cleveland.
Cleveland is going to have to give Houston a first and fifth-round pick in 2024 to finish off the trade. There are still three seasons on the five-year, 230 million dollar deal that is fully guaranteed. Houston has their franchise quarterback on a rookie deal in his first season. C.J. Stroud has already proven he is that guy.
It is a tough look for the Browns to have their season ended by a team they thought they won a trade against when they made it. The future is bright in Houston and should be for Cleveland, but one team is riding higher right now.
Glaring issue that was ignored with Joe Flacco hurt Browns bad in loss to Texans
