Following the news about Dan Quinn leaving the Dallas Cowboys to be head coach of the Washington Commanders, everyone has been wondering about who will take over the defense that's ranked #1 in EPA/play since Quinn took over in 2021.
It's not an easy decision the Cowboys have to make but based on the insight from multiple insiders, it seems clear they'll lean toward an in-house candidate.
Both defensive pass game coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. and defensive backs coach Al Harris are seen as the top candidates for the job.
Well, it appears All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs has a strong preference between the two and he didn't hesitate to let fans know about it by firing a post on Twitter/X: "Al Harris for DC."
Obviously, Diggs is vouching for his positional coach but Harris' resumé speaks for itself. Harris has been behind his development which has helped Diggs become one of the top cornerbacks in the league. He later developed DaRon Bland, a Day 3 cornerback turned All-Pro that just made history with the most pick-sixes in a single season.
The reality is that Whitt Jr. is considered the top in-house candidate to replace Quinn. However, it may very well be that the latter takes him to Washington to be his defensive coordinator.
Ideally, the Cowboys would be able to keep one of the two as DC. If not, they'll be forced to look elsewhere for a coach to take on a unit which includes Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs, and DaRon Bland, among many other standouts.
