The Tennessee Titans have already replaced Mike Vrabel at head coach with Brian Callahan. Meanwhile, every other HC opening around the NFL has been filled as well. Vrabel did not lock in one of those openings. Accordingly, discussions about his future, both near and distant, have arisen.
NFL insider Adam Schefter discussed Vrabel's future on The Pat McAfee Show.
Schefter discussed Vrabel and Bill Belichick in tandem. Neither one of them got one of the vacant HC spots – so what now?
He notes that both coaches are well-respected and may stay involved around the league. They could visit with teams during training camp and consult with them, if they choose to do so. Schefter also doubles down on the idea that both will be top candidates, along with Pete Carroll, during the 2025 coaching cycle if they all want to continue coaching.
Schefter also points to a possibility where teams handle their coaching situations differently at the end of the season. The availability of Vrabel and Belichick could affect the timing of firings or decisions. He acknowledges that organizations could try to get a head start on hiring them if their team struggles heavily to begin the season.
All in all, not many folks expected both Vrabel and Belichick to miss out on all of the jobs, but that's the reality. Now, they will take some time to re-evaluate.
