Update: Patrick Mahomes Sr. was released from Smith County Jail on Sunday after posting a $10,000 bond.
Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes II, was arrested on Saturday in Tyler, Texas for an alleged DWI.
As first reported by KETK FOX 51, Smith County Jail records show the elder Mahomes was arrested by the Tyler Police Department for his alleged third DWI or more. He was arrested back in 2018 for his second DWI charge, where he served 40 days in jail on weekends throughout a year-long span.
The 53-year-old Mahomes Sr. is a former MLB pitcher, playing with the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates from 1992 through 2003.
He is currently being held at Smith County Jail and his bond has not yet been set.
Thankfully, no one was hurt in this situation. While it's a personal family matter, it is undoubtedly an unneeded distraction for the Chiefs' quarterback just seven days before the Super Bowl LVIII's tilt with the San Francisco 49ers.
