The Super Bowl is now one week away, and the two teams facing one another have to be perfect this next week during all of the distractions. Not to mention, they are prepping on the football side of things as well.
The Chiefs, well, we know they are locked in because this has almost become a yearly thing. The 49ers, well, they are still having issues with the basic things when it comes to football. You would think that by the Super Bowl, these things wouldn't still be happening, but they are.
The 49ers have a very talented roster, one that is too talented to have to revisit the basics. But, they are, and their coaches are not very happy.
"Collectively, as a team and as a defense, it's unacceptable," San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks said on the team low effort plays vs. the Lions. "We have to make sure that we play every down as if it's going to be the difference in the ball game. Those guys know that, quite honestly, it was embarrassing."
The Chiefs are a team that you cannot have low-effort plays against. Sure, it's not the same explosive offenses of the past in Kansas City, but it's still an offense that, if you lack effort against guys like Rashee Rice, Isiah Pacheco, or even guys like Jerick McKinnon, who is designated to return from IR, they will make you pay. The Chiefs have an offense that will make you pay if you're not careful; it just hasn't happened as often as we have seen in the past.
The Chiefs defense will also make you pay if the 49ers offense is having low-effort moments. If the 49ers are struggling at all with issues like these, they will not win. Luckily for them, they are a professional team that has made it to the Super Bowl. I can promise you they will get up for a game that is as big as the one we will see on Sunday.
