The Philadelphia Eagles fired defensive coordinator Sean Desai on Sunday and it wasn't too long after when they made their decision on defensive assistant Matt Patricia.

Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Eagles did not renew Patricia's contract for the 2024 season and he "plans to explore other opportunities."

Pelissero added that Patricia will be a "top DC candidate" elsewhere, which may have been a typo.

Patricia took over Sean Desai's play-calling duties in Week 15 after the Eagles had dropped back-to-back games.

Switching up defensive coordinators at the end of the season was not the right move considering how worse the Eagles looked after the fact.

Under Patricia, the Eagles went 1-4 and lost two of the teams in the league, the Arizona Cardinals and New York Giants. They also were blown away 32-9 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of playoffs.

The Eagles have reached out to several coordinator candidates already, though Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen and former Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale are the only two that have been named so far.
