The Kansas City Chiefs did not hold practice on Wednesday, Jan. 31 ahead of their Super Bowl LVIII tilt with the San Francisco 49ers. They did, however, release an injury report in estimation had they held a practice on Wednesday.
The Chiefs get an extra day off this week, which is how they've prepared for the Super Bowl in past years as well. Typically, they handle their game planning and play install this week from Thursday through Saturday. After that is over they'll travel to Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday and then continue working through the kinks of the game plan on the road.
“The way it will look here, the guys will come in today, we have a team meeting a little later today," Reid said on Monday. "Then they have a couple of days off, then they will come back on Thursday, and we’ll start our normal week. We’ll try to get everything done here the best we can and once we get down there (to Las Vegas) it’s a good review for us and still keep ourselves in shape, in football shape, so we’re ready to go.”
That said, had the Chiefs practiced today, two key players would be absent from practice due to injury. Let's take a look.
The Chiefs' first injury report for Super Bowl LVIII in estimation:
| Player | Injury | Participation |
|---|---|---|
DT Chris Jones | Quad | DNP |
RB Isiah Pacheco | Toe/Ankle | DNP |
DE Charles Omenihu | Knee | DNP |
LG Joe Thuney | Pectoral | DNP |
WR Skyy Moore (IR) | Knee | LP |
LB Willie Gay Jr. | Neck | LP |
CB L’Jarius Sneed | Calf | LP |
OT Prince Tega Wanogho | Quad | FP |
QB Blaine Gabbert | Oblique | FP |
WR Richie James | Foot | FP |
WR Rashee Rice | Ankle | FP |
LB Drue Tranquill | Knee | FP |
WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling | Oblique | FP |
WR Kadarius Toney | NIR (Personal) | FP |
KEY: DNP = Did not participate | LP = Limited participation | FP = Full participation | NIR = Not injury related
Observations:
- Both RB Isiah Pacheco and DT Chris Jones would not practice on Wednesday had the team held practice. There is no reason to worry about either player with this much time to rest and prepare for the Super Bowl.
- As for Joe Thuney and Charles Omenihu, we already know that both are unlikely to play in the Super Bowl after suffering serious injuries.
- Skyy Moore appears to be on the mend after suffering a setback in his knee injury. Both Willie Gay Jr. and L'Jarius Sneed would join him as limited if the team had practiced.
- Perhaps the most interesting thing about this is that WR Kadarius Toney is no longer listed with a hip injury after accusing the team of lying about his injury.

Super Bowl LVIII will be the NFL’s first without Kansas City Chiefs franchise matriarch Norma Hunt
The Kansas City Chiefs will be without Norma Hunt in person, but she’ll surely be at Super Bowl LVIII in spirit.
