When Bryce Young threw two pick-6s and a third interception just for fun, it wasn't a good day at the office for the Carolina Panthers offense.
Still unwavering in devotion, despite the poor game, is Panthers head coach Frank Reich, who believes that Young's dooming pick-6s are a byproduct of a once-in-a-lifetime game of struggles.
"It’s that one-in-a-million game," Reich said. "It’s unfortunate. The plays, Kenny Moore makes two good plays. We gotta find ways to avoid both of those things."
Young's first interception came right before the half, when the Panthers were in a two-minute drill, attempting to cut into the Indianapolis Colts' lead. Young attempted to find running back Chuba Hubbard in the flat. Moore read the play like a book.
"Our first read wasn’t there, so we’re progressin’ backside," Reich explained. "And Bryce is super quick and super accurate at gettin’ the ball out, and Kenny just played it right and undercut it."
The second interception came on a screen pass, where Young overthrew his target, and again, the ball found the arms of Moore.
“The second one was a screen pass," Reich explained. "They had it covered. Quarterbacks know, we just got to dirt that. We just got to dirt that. So, we learn from that, and we move on.”
Reich knows Young wasn't close to good on Sunday. But he expected a game like that eventually. As he said following the game, multi-interception games happen to every quarterback who plays the game long enough.
It just so happened that Young's multi-interception day came right after the first win of his career.
