There's plenty of hype building for the Tennessee Vols' basketball program as the 2023-24 season gets underway.
How much hype?
Well, former Virginia Tech head coach turned ESPN analyst Seth Greenberg said on Tuesday night that he thinks Tennessee could win the national championship this season.
"I think a team that has struggled in the NCAA tournament but I think has a chance is Tennessee," said Greenberg when asked who he has cutting the nets in April. "Why Tennessee? Dalton Knecht obviously improves them offensively. Jordan Gainey, another guy on the perimeter, can knock down jump shots. They got a really deep, tough, physical, mature background. Santiago Vescovi, obviously can get in the lane, make plays, knock down jumpers….they've got great depth, they're playing with much better flow. They're playing in transition. They have more shotmakers. You know they're going to defend. I think Tennessee makes a deep run in the NCAA Tournament."
If Tennessee stays healthy, they likely have the deepest team in the country. And the addition of Knecht gives the Vols the scorer that the program was missing last season in big moments. It feels like this might be Rick Barnes' most "complete" team.
A lot will transpire between now and April, but picking the Vols to win it all isn't crazy talk from Greenberg. Tennessee legitimately has a chance at a national championship this season.
