Missouri Tigers head coach Eli Drinkwitz is giving Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel a taste of his own medicine ahead of the matchup between the two programs this upcoming weekend.
Heupel has become well-known for his incredibly vague and non-informative injury updates. On Thursdays during game weeks, his final media session each week with reporters, Heupel almost always answers a question about an injury with "we'll see where (the player) is at on Friday".
That obviously means that no information is revealed about the player until the game kicks off on Saturday.
Drinkwitz is using the same strategy this week when it comes to one of Missouri's best players.
Tigers wide receiver Luther Burden was inured in Missouri's loss to the Georgia Bulldogs last weekend. Burden, who has caught 64 passes for 958 yards and seven touchdowns this season, is considered questionable for Saturday's game against Tennessee.
On Wednesday, during the SEC coaches teleconference, Drinkwitz told reporters that Missouri will know on Friday whether or not Burden will play against the Vols.
It's impossible to know if there's serious doubt about Burden's availability or if this is just gamesmanship from Drinkwitz.
If you're a Tennessee fan, it's hard to complain about the way Drinkwitz is handling this particular situation. Heupel has handled numerous injuries the exact same way this season (specifically with offensive lineman Cooper Mays).
I guess we'll all find out at kickoff on Saturday if Burden will be good to go for the Tigers.
Tennessee’s win against UConn showed why the rest of the SEC is going to hate Nico Iamaleava
Oh yeah, lots of SEC fans aren’t going to like Nico
