Marlon Humphrey was among several Baltimore Ravens players who missed the team’s Week 4 road matchup against the Cleveland Browns. Humphrey was sidelined from the divisional game as he was continuing to recover from foot surgery.
Ravens defensive back Brandon Stephens helped to fill in for Humphrey against the Browns, and he went on to shadow Amari Cooper for much of the contest. Stephens allowed a mere one reception when covering Cooper in Week 4.
It is currently up in the air as to just who Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald will call on to cover Cooper in Week 10. If Humphrey ends up being the one who gets the nod to square off with Cooper, then the veteran wideout will be ready to face his former Alabama teammate.
"Yeah, obviously, there’s a big difference," Cooper said ahead of Week 10. "I mean, Marlon is a Pro Bowl-caliber player, so he presents probably a little bit of a tougher challenge than the guys they had playing in the first game just because he starts over those guys.
"I actually know Marlon going all the way back to Bama, so he’s a tough opponent."
Cooper and Humphrey often faced off in practice during their days at Alabama. It has come as no surprise to Cooper to see Humphrey emerge as a go-to starter with the Ravens.
"He was a lot more unrefined obviously coming in as an eighteen-year-old," Cooper said. "He was more so a track guy. But he got better as the years went on and eventually worked his way up to becoming a first-round pick. It was just part of the process of him being at Bama, learning coach Saban, you know, getting better every day."
Overall, Cooper has recorded two receiving touchdowns in seven career games played against Baltimore.
