Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Josh Dobbs is inadvertently in the middle of some NFL drama.
Dobbs was on the receiving end of an illegal hit from Denver Broncos defensive back Kareem Jackson on Monday night that resulted in a four-game suspension.
Jackson, who wasn't flagged for the hit on Dobbs, was suspended earlier this season for an illegal hit on Green Bay Packers tight end Luke Musgrave.
On Tuesday morning, Jackson, who played college football at Alabama, sent a tweet that included a video of legendary quarterback Tom Brady talking about the differences in the NFL now and when he first started playing in the early 2000s.
Brady notes in the video that players like Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis would've been heavily penalized under today's rules, which better protect offensive players.
Jackson is clearly trying to send a message to the NFL. But I don't think this is a battle he's going to win. The NFL isn't going to reverse their rules on player safety. Jackson (and Tom Brady) may not like the rules that aim to better protect players, but he's going to have to adjust to them if he wants to stay on the field.
As for Dobbs, the suspension for Jackson provides some "justice" for the former Vols quarterback, but it doesn't change that he fumbled on the play which resulted in three points for Denver in a game that the Vikings lost by one point.
If the NFL is going to suspend players for illegal hits, they should at least get the call right during the game.
