The Chicago Bears will once again be buyers at the deadline and have just landed the biggest deal of the season thus far with the 4:00pm window approaching.

The Bears have agreed to a trade that will send Washington Commanders defensive end Montez Sweat to Chicago in exchange for a 2024 second-round draft pick, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Bears have reportedly been in the market for a star defensive end via trade over the past few days and had discussions with the Commanders regarding Sweat and fellow defensive end Chase Young. Sweat ended up being the player the Bears were able to swing for.

This is the second straight year the Bears made a deal on deadline day consisting of an early second-round pick. Last season, the Bears traded the 32nd overall selection to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for wide receiver Chase Claypool. Hopefully this deal shakes out to be more profitable for general manager Ryan Poles.

Sweat has recorded 6.5 sacks in 8 games in 2023. The entire Chicago Bears defense has totaled 10 sacks this season. Sweat immediately becomes the best player and pass rusher on the team's defense and is still just 27-years-old.

According to Schefter, the Bears are projected to have the most cap space in the NFL this offseason with over $110M. Their first order of business will be agreeing to a long-term contract with their new star defensive lineman.
