It's clear from several reports that the San Francisco 49ers are in on Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson, who has been granted permission to seek a trade.

Unsurprisingly, though, they are far from the only team interested in a premier young perimeter corner, and the Niners' main competition apparently comes from another Super Bowl contender enduring an unconvincing season.

ESPN's Ed Werder reported the 49ers and Buffalo Bills are among the teams discussing a potential trade for Johnson.

Buffalo has a lack of cornerback depth following the season-ending Achilles injury suffered by starter Tre'Davious White.

As would be the case with the 49ers, Johnson would step in and become an immediate starter for the Bills, and the level of interest in his services may drive up the price for the 2020 second-round pick.

San Francisco would likely move Deommodore Lenoir to the slot were the 49ers to acquire Johnson, starting nickel Isaiah Oliver having endured significant struggles in Sunday's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Johnson has the third-highest PFF coverage grade among corners with at least 50 coverage snaps and ranks fourth in passer rating allowed (37.3).
