There was a sense of panic within the Baltimore Ravens organization when Marcus Williams went down with an injury during the team’s regular season opener against the Houston Texans.
Williams suffered a pec injury in Week 1, and while the Ravens opted not to place the veteran safety on the injured reserve list, he went on to miss three games due to the ailment.
Williams' three-game absence did not end up hurting Baltimore's secondary as expected thanks to Geno Stone.
Stone went on to fill in for Williams, and he wound up taking full advantage of his golden opportunity. From the 19 total tackles tallied to the pair of interceptions that he hauled in, he was all over the place in Baltimore’s secondary.
The Ravens have sidelined Williams from their last three contests due to his nagging hamstring injury. As was the case earlier in the season, Stone has taken hold of Williams' starting safety spot and has not looked back.
Overall, Stone has logged three interceptions in Baltimore's last three games, including one off of Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith in Week 9.
Stone’s prolific play for the Ravens has garnered the stamp of approval from several of his teammates, including Williams.
"[Geno Stone is] playing amazing," Williams said on Wednesday. "He comes out, he comes to work every day locked in, and he's hungry. When you have a guy who's hungry and wants to go out there and ball, he does that each and every week, and I'm just proud of him, all of his progress and everything he's done this year. I hope he continues that."
Look for Stone to continue to make life difficult for opposing quarterbacks over the upcoming second half of the season.
