There are a slew of needs at the midseason point for the 1-7 Carolina Panthers.
But one need trumps it all — wide receiver.
Ahead of the trade deadline, the Panthers were sniffing around for wide receiver candidates, but ultimately, the team didn't pull the trigger on anyone. Now, midway through the season, that need is more present than ever before.
With limited early draft assets, the Panthers will attempt to improve the wide receiver room through free agency or trade.
One name that is still enticing, despite recent results, is wide receiver Tee Higgins from Cincinnati.
When the Bengals got off to a slow start, Higgins' name was in a bevy of potential trades. The Cincinnati Enquirer went as far as reporting he may not be part of the team's future at one point.
With the Bengals winning, maybe things have changed. However, the Panthers' circumstance hasn't. Higgins is still set to be a free agent if the Bengals don't franchise-tag him. The Panthers ought to do some sniffing around for the receiver. He has the talent to change the direction of the Panthers offense, regardless of Bryce Young's struggles.
If not Higgins, the Panthers could turn to other names: Jerry Jeudy, Marquise Brown, etc., all of whom the franchise was linked to before the trade deadline.
Miles Sanders remains the Panthers’ biggest disappointment at the season’s midpoint
With a team that sits 1-7 at the midpoint of the season, there are several disappointments to speak of.
