Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor announced on Friday that quarterback Joe Burrow will miss the remainder of the season due to a torn ligament in his wrist, which will require surgery.
Burrow suffered the injury in the first half of the Bengals' loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football.
The injury has been the source of controversy as the NFL is investigating why Burrow, who wasn't on the Bengals' injury report, was wearing a wrist brace in a video that was posted on social media.
Burrow addressed the brace, which he called a compression sleeve, on Friday while meeting with the media.
"This is a completely different thing," said Burrow. "It's not uncommon for guys to wear compression sleeves on a plane because when you go to that altitude, things can swell up. Football, you have a lot of bumps and bruises. This is a completely new injury."
Burrow added that it was indeed a compression sleeve that he was wearing in the video and it was because he was trying to maintain his body a little better during the short week.
The NFL will likely continue its investigation into whether or not Burrow should've been listed on the injury report, but it's worth noting that he appeared to be throwing the ball without any pain until the play (the touchdown pass to Joe Mixon) where the injury occurred.
