The Kansas City Chiefs made a corresponding move after signing Chris Jones to a new deal.
Chris Jones' new deal allows him the possibility to make up to $25 million this year, so with that, the Chiefs needed to create cap space, which is what the most recent move is.
On Tuesday, according to Field Yates of ESPN, the Chiefs restructured Joe Thuney's contract to create $8.7 million in 2023 cap space.
This move pretty much guarantees Thuney's future in Kansas City. Thuney will have a $27 million cap hit over the next two years, according to Over the Cap, which is high for an offensive guard; thus, they plan to have him around for the full term of his contract.
They are keeping one of the best guards in the league for the remainder of his contract while also helping get out of the cap space issue they are currently in.
