Tennessee Vols sophomore edge rusher James Pearce was a huge reason why UT was able to beat the South Carolina Gamecocks 41-20 on Saturday night in Knoxville.

Pearce was credited with two sacks (or three, depending on which stats you view) against South Carolina. And he was credited with nine quarterback pressures by Pro Football Focus.

As a result of Pearce's massive game against South Carolina, he was named the SEC defensive lineman of the week.

One of Pearce's biggest plays of the night was a quarterback hurry that forced a bad throw from Spencer Rattler that resulted in a pick-six by Vols cornerback Kamal Hadden.

Pearce is the second Tennessee player to earn SEC defensive lineman of the week honors this season. Senior defensive lineman Tyler Baron was named the SEC defensive lineman of the week after the Volunteers' season-opening win against the Virginia Cavaliers.
