In the NFL, 'next man up' is mentioned quite often. For the New Orleans Saints, their running back room has personified that motto this season.
After Alvin Kamara was suspended for three games, Jamaal Williams took over as the lead back in the backfield for the Saints. Now, Williams has suffered an injury that HC Dennis Allen believes will force him to miss some time.
Accordingly, who is next for the Saints at running back?
Tony Jones Jr. took over the lead role against the Panthers in Week 2, but that was out of necessity. Rookie RB Kendre Miller was held out of that game due to injury, but Allen expects him to be a 'full go' at practice this week.
Hopefully, Miller can play plenty of meaningful snaps next weekend versus the Green Bay Packers.
It's a tough blow for Williams, considering the timing. Now, he will need to get healthy in order to backup Alvin Kamara once he returns after Week 3.
We will get more updates on Williams over the next few days regarding his injury. A timetable for his return to the field is unknown for now.
