The whole college football world has been captivated by the stunning start Deion Sanders has enjoyed with Colorado, and the 49ers have been similarly fascinated by what 'Coach Prime' has done with the Buffaloes to this point.

Colorado is 3-0 following a remarkable comeback win over rivals Colorado State in double overtime, a game that had the full attention of the 49ers' locker room the night before their Week 2 win over the Rams.

Speaking on his podcast 'The Warner House', Niners linebacker Fred Warner revealed how he and his teammates were engrossed by events in Boulder on Saturday.

Said Warner:

"Let me just take everybody through how incredible of a time this is … we are in the hotel the night before the game, they got college football games on the night before the game. Everybody in that room was dialled in, watching Colorado versus Colorado State. They are literally jumping at every single play to start that game, it was as if we were watching the Super Bowl. That in itself right there is all you need to know about what Deion has done to that program. Man, you talk about a story. It's in his first year too, imagine what it's going to be like next year."

For Warner's head coach, Kyle Shanahan, much of the enjoyment comes from watching a player whose jersey he wore growing up thrive in the coaching ranks.

Shanahan was the ball boy while his father Mike served as the offensive coordinator for the 1994 49ers team that won the Super Bowl with Sanders starring as the Defensive Player of the Year. When his dad then took the head coaching position with the Broncos, Shanahan attended high school in Colorado.

He said of Sanders at a press conference on Tuesday:

"He is just fun to watch. Just everyone being such a fan of him growing up and then how cool he is now. But really what made it real was just watching their first game. That was the week before we started and I was actually just hanging out at the house and I got to watch them versus TCU and to watch how their team played was the coolest thing. Everyone knows how cool Deion is. But we always talk about the silent tape and how a team looks and to watch those dudes come out and battle and how hard they played and the confidence they had, that was what made it so fun to watch."

Though Shanahan is a die-hard Texas fan after playing college football for the Longhorns, he conceded the success of the Buffaloes and the connections he has to Colorado are making him split his allegiances a little.

"I'm from Colorado, my wife went there, best man at my wedding went there. I’m not a big fan of there. I'm a Longhorn. But they're actually making some of us like CU right now. Even we got a lot of CSU guys in our office and last week they even admitted that CU is pretty cool right now. Then last week we finished, it was a night game, so when we were done with our meetings we had to see the fourth quarter in my hotel room, their backs were against the wall and they stepped it up and got it done. So it’s been cool to watch. Fun for sports and probably got the most hype team going on right now, so can’t get mad about that."

The 49ers, who face the Giants in Week 3, haven't confirmed their practice schedule for the days after the Thursday night game. If they have Saturday free, it's likely many of them will spend it watching Colorado take on Oregon.
