We're already a third of the way through the 2023 college football regular season (which doesn't seem possible).

With a good chunk of the season in the rear view mirror, 247Sports re-ranked the SEC quarterbacks based on how they've played so far in 2023.

Tennessee Vols quarterback Joe Milton, who hasn't had a true breakout game yet, is ranked No. 8 in 247Sports' updated SEC quarterback rankings.

Milton was ranked No. 4 in 247Sports' preseason rankings.

South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback Spencer Rattler, Tennessee's opponent on Saturday night in Neyland Stadium, is ranked No. 1.

From 247Sports: Were expectations too high for Joe Milton and Tennessee? Perhaps. This is not a misprint — the Vols have the fewest explosive passing plays of 20-plus yards in the SEC thus far (9), part of the reason they were saddled with a loss in Gainesville, Fla., earlier this month. Milton will need to show more confidence from the pocket and have a better rapport with his wideouts moving forward for Tennessee to hang onto its national ranking.

The Vols' offense as a whole has to improve if Milton is going to climb this list over the next couple of weeks.

Milton certainly needs to play better moving forward. But the same goes for the offensive line and Tennessee's wide receivers, too. The entire offense has to be on the same page if Milton is going to be at his best.
