NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans suffered a loss in more ways than one on Sunday afternoon.
Not only did the Titans fall 31-28 in overtime to the divisional rival Indianapolis Colts, they also saw a few key players get injured. Most notably, Jeffery Simmons and Derrick Henry both left the game early.
But in a bit of relieving news after the game, it looks like Simmons (knee) avoided a major injury.
According to a report from Jordan Schulz, "Jeffery Simmons is not believed to have suffered a serious injury" and will get an MRI to confirm tomorrow.
The Titans' star defensive tackle walked to the locker room in the third quarter of Sunday's game and was later ruled out with a knee injury.
Tennessee's 2023 season has been nothing short of miserable and disappointing, but losing Simmons to a longterm injury that effects the 2024 season is something the Titans can ill afford. The 26-year-old defensive tackle is the heart and soul of the Titans' defense and recently signed a $94 million contract extension.
Simmons has recorded 5.5 sacks and 44 tackles this year, but his impact goes well beyond the postgame box scores.
