A Tennessee Vols legend was named this week by The Athletic as a potential option for a big-time NFL job.
Earlier this week, the Pittsburgh Steelers fired offensive coordinator Matt Canada, which means they'll be in the market to hire a permanent offensive coordinator this offseason.
For now, running backs coach Eddie Faulkner and quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan are handling Canada's duties. But the expectation is that Pittsburgh will cast a wide net this offseason to make sure they get the right guy.
The Athletic put out a list of options for the Steelers on Friday and Vols legend Tee Martin is one of the names included.
From The Athletic: A former Steelers quarterback, Martin is a rising name on the coordinator list. He has experience calling plays at USC and has helped Lamar Jacksontransition seamlessly from OC Greg Roman last year to Todd Monken this year. He might not have enough experience to be a contender for the position, but he is an interesting option.
Martin spent three seasons as USC's offensive coordinator (2016 to 2018) before joining Tennessee's staff as a wide receivers coach from 2019 to 2020. When Jeremy Pruitt was fired after the 2020 season, Martin made the jump to the NFL as a wide receivers coach for the Baltimore Ravens. He spent two years in that role before taking over as the Ravens' quarterbacks coach for the 2023 season.
Landing with the Steelers would be somewhat of a full circle moment for Martin. Pittsburgh drafted Martin 2000 (Martin was one of the six quarterbacks selected before Tom Brady) and he spent two seasons with the franchise during his brief NFL career.
