The Tennessee Vols' opponent in the upcoming Citrus Bowl, the Iowa Hawkeyes, went viral this week for a pretty unique reason.
Iowa posted their offensive coordinator job on their school website just like it was any other job.
That's not typically how offensive coordinator hires are made at the Power-5 level.
Usually, the head coach, or someone on the staff, knows someone, or will at least ask around. Interviews then happen (typically) and then a hire is made.
Iowa, however, doesn't really put a premium on offense (they had the No. 130 offense in the nation in 2023), so it's not a surprise that they aren't handling their search for a new play caller in a typical fashion.
The Hawkeyes announced in late October that offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz, the son of head coach Kirk Ferentz, would not return in 2024.
