It doesn't get much better than having ways to win games that you aren't even playing. This is absolutely the case for the Dolphins in the Bills-Chiefs matchup tomorrow.
If the Bills win, their chances of making the playoffs only improve marginally and they help create a better shot for the Dolphins to secure the top spot in the AFC. If the Chiefs win, the Bills could be kissing their playoff chances goodbye very soon.
It isn't rocket science at this point. The schedule is playing out somewhat as expected and it is going to take a lot to throw it off by now.
Both teams are behind the Dolphins with their records, but both are still worth keeping an eye on. The Bills did already beat (and dominate) the Dolphins once this season on top of being a rival in the division. The Chiefs have Patrick Mahomes at quarterback. Enough said.
As for their records, the Bills are at a shocking 6-6 and the Chiefs are at a better 8-4, but it would be fair to say that number could be better for Kansas City.
Still, a loss for the Bills is pretty disastrous. 6-7 isn't impossible to crawl back from, but those wildcard spots are going to be a hot commodity with the AFC South proving to be the scrappiest division in football.
As for the Chiefs, a loss to go to 8-5 would hurt, but an extremely easy stretch of games after that should be more than enough to compete for one of the higher spots in the playoff picture, just hopefully not high enough to kick the Dolphins out of tied for the top spot as they currently sit.
All of this does assume that the Dolphins will keep winning during their easy stretch, but one has to hope that is exactly how everything will play out this week based on the quality of the matchup.
Dolphins are set to see a return of biggest battle on the team
The competition is going to heat up again.
