The Philadelphia Eagles are in trouble.
Until the Eagles can fix their defensive woes, they're going to be taken advantage of.
The San Fransisco 49ers exposed the Eagles' weaknesses in Week 13 and then the Dallas Cowboys followed suit in Week 14 simply by running the same plays that the Niners did.
Credit to FS1's NFL analyst Emmanuel Acho for pointing this out during a Monday segment of "Speak."
"The Eagles are in trouble because they have yet to suture up the wound that the 49ers exposed," says Acho.
The Cowboys wasted no time copying and pasting the 49ers' game plan on Sunday night. Two of Dallas' first three plays against the Birds were straight from the Niners' tape, taking advantage of the Eagles' weak linebackers and secondary.
The Eagles' defense isn't as good as their 10-3 record says and they appear to only be getting worse as teams figure out how to attack their weak spots.
Philadelphia currently ranks 28th in pass defense, first downs and points allowed. They sit at 22nd in sacks per play, they're last on stopping third downs, 30th for red zone defense and 31st for interceptions. They've also dropped from first to eighth in run defense.
These ranks are significantly different from last year's Eagles defense which sat in the top 10 in most categories — that is also why Acho compared this year's Eagles to bad soda.
The Eagles have been exposed and if they can't quickly fix their mistakes down the final stretch, then a repeat Super Bowl appearance is out of the question.
