The Kansas City Chiefs (8-5) are looking to get back on track as they head to Foxborough, Massachusetts to face the New England Patriots (3-10) on Sunday for Week 15 of the 2023 NFL season.
New England is coming off their third win of the season and their first since upsetting Buffalo at the end of October. Kansas City is coming off their second consecutive loss and a stretch where they've lost four of their last six games.
According to the folks at DraftKings Sportsbook, the Chiefs are 9.5-point favorites over the Pats in Week 15. The over/under point total is 37 points, which is the lowest mark that Patrick Mahomes has seen as a starting quarterback. The Kansas City moneyline is currently listed at -440, giving the Chiefs an 81.48% implied win probability.
Why oddsmakers are vastly underestimating Bill Belichick
The Patriots undoubtedly have one of the worst records in the NFL. Their offense has been one of the worst in the league, but they seem to have found some measure of success with Bailey Zappe filling in as their starting quarterback. Last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, they scored more than they managed in their three prior games combined.
The offensive improvements aren't what should have Chiefs fans scared about this one, though. Patriots HC Bill Belichick's tendencies as a defensive-minded coach should present a massive challenge for Kansas City, especially when you consider the struggles they've dealt with in recent weeks.
Belichick is going to do what he always does on the defensive side of the ball — take away what you do best. In this case, he's going to double-team Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice in the secondary, and he's going to key in Isiah Pacheco in the run game, assuming he returns. It's going to be up to the tertiary receiving options to get the job done in Kansas City, and through fourteen weeks of the 2023 NFL season, they've failed miserably in that regard. Add in the fact that Gillette Stadium is a difficult place to play at in December, well, the Chiefs will have their work cut out for them.
Recent discovery will help Chiefs with long-term roster plans
The Kansas City Chiefs appear to have made a huge discovery with one of their 2023 NFL draft picks, which will help them in the future.
