Reports of Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase missing Saturday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers are ringing true Thursday as Chase watched the Bengals' third and final practice of the week from the sidelines.
Chase missed all three of the team's practices this week, making his Week 16 status pretty clear and obvious. Head coach Zac Taylor ruled Chase out following Thursday's practice.
Since the start of the 2021 season, the Bengals have had one of Joe Burrow or Chase take the field for them. This will be the first time since then that neither will play.
Chase suffered a separated shoulder (officially an AC joint sprain) last Saturday against the Minnesota Vikings. Taylor labeled his Pro Bowl wideout as "day-to-day" earlier in the week, and Chase has not been cleared to practice since.
The first report regarding Chase missing Saturday came out Monday evening following his MRI. It was never going to be whether or not he will play Saturday, but if he can play two Sundays from now against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Chase will need to practice at some point before then. Luckily, the team will have an extra day of rest between their upcoming two contests.
Every other player appears good to go for Saturday's all-important game in Pittsburgh. All six players who were full participants on Wednesday went full again Thursday. Cincinnati's inactives list will feature Chase and a handful of healthy scratches.
