A domino fell late Sunday night that opens up the possibility of Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel leaving Nashville to take over as the head coach of the New England Patriots.

On Sunday night, after a late-season collapse, the Atlanta Falcons fired head coach Arthur Smith.

The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported on Monday morning that if the Patriots move on from Bill Belichick this offseason, then the Falcons are interested in hiring the legendary head coach.

Belichick is still under contract with the Patriots. That means if the Falcons want to hire him, the Patriots will either have to terminate Belichick's contract or Atlanta will have to trade for him.

Adding to the onslaught of news on Monday is a report from Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz that suggests that Vrabel is interested in the idea of taking over for Belichick in New England.

In early November, the Boston Globe's Ben Volin reported that Patriots owner Robert Kraft considers Vrabel a "home run choice" to replace Belichick.

If that report is accurate and if Schultz's report is accurate, then it seems likely that Kraft will do whatever it takes to make Vrabel to New England a reality.

Vrabel is still under contract with the Titans which means the Patriots would need to work out a trade to bring the former Patriot to New England to replace Belichick.
