It looked like there was going to be an opportunity for the Houston Texans to make their young quarterback very happy in the 2024 NFL Draft, but they’ll now have to look at other options.
Ohio State WR Emeka Egbuka announced that he would be returning to Columbus for his senior season and would not be entering the draft. It is a pretty big surprise, the consensus thought was that Egbuka would be drafted in the first two rounds.
Houston stood out as a team that could add more depth at wideout and taking a player that had over 1,100 recovering yards as a sophomore with Stroud as his quarterback made a lot of sense.
Egbuka missed multiple games with a nagging injury in 2023 joshes jus junior season with 515 yards and four touchdowns. It was a significant drop-off from the prior season. Much of it was the injury that he did play through some, as well as quarterback play that was not quite up to the Ohio State standard.
Now, there is still a chance Texans could eye him in 2025, but a lot can happen between now and then. Houston will surely add more wideout help this offseason to build onto their young core. Egbuka has thrown his hat into being one of the top wide receivers taken next draft cycle.
He knows his college days are in the past, but you know Stroud has at least thought of the idea of pairing with his old teammate and maybe they eventually will.
