Earlier this week, the Denver Broncos benched Russell Wilson to help save them some financial space when it comes to the salary cap. It was somewhat of a shocking decision, especially since they gave Wilson the contract before even seeing him suit up in blue and orange. They are expected to cut him in March.
But they hired Sean Payton this offseason because he felt he could fix all of the issues the team had, including fixing Russell Wilson himself. He got to Denver and immediately started complaining about how the team was coached last season. He bashed people in the process, and it was pretty apparent he did not like Wilson.
So, why did he take the job? It's a question still waiting to be answered, but what we do know is that the way he has acted has been very unprofessional, and one former NFL player who is now on ESPN said the same thing.
"Let's be honest: Sean Payton has behaved as a thug since he became the coach of the Denver Broncos. Immediately when he gets in the building, he starts to undercut Russell Wilson personally and professionally from his first press conference on," former cornerback Ryan Clark said on Get Up on ESPN.
And he's right. He said that Payton needs to be held accountable for the way he has acted. Some former Broncos players who were with the team earlier in the season but have since been traded or cut agree with him.
ESPN posted a graphic of what Clark said, and former safety Kareem Jackson and former defensive end Randy Gregory, who are both on different teams now, agreed with Clark by commenting on the post.
This says a ton about Payton. Is this team better now than it was last season? Yes. Is it because of Payton? Mostly. However, it is not hard to be better than last season. The way he has acted is unprofessional, for sure.
