The New Orleans Saints had high hopes for Alontae Taylor entering this season. The young defensive back was quite impressive in his rookie campaign a season ago, and they wanted him to build on it.
At times, Taylor has been one of the best defenders on the defense. At other times, teams have attacked him in the slot. It's been a bit of a rollercoaster, but there's been more bad than good – overall.
In Week 16 against the Los Angeles Rams, Taylor was benched in the second half. The Rams offense had multiple chunk plays against him early on, and Dennis Allen decided taking him out was best. Taylor agreed that it was not his best outing but would bounce back.
Taylor just did that in Week 17 in a major NFC South matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
In the second quarter, Taylor came up with a big interception on Bucs QB Baker Mayfield with Tampa driving.
It was the young DB's first interception of his career. He was a team leader in pass breakups last year, but he couldn't quite get his first pick. Now, he has it.
Taylor is an ultra-talented player with tons of versatility. His development will be a major factor in the future of the Saints defense.
