Tennessee Vols quarterback Nico Iamaleava has only made one career start so far, but that start went well enough that the former five-star recruit already has better 2024 Heisman Trophy odds than some notable names.

Fan Duel's most recent Heisman odds have Nico at +1800 to bring home college football's top honor next season.

The only quarterbacks with better odds are Quinn Ewers (Texas), Carson Beck (Georgia), Jalen Milroe (Alabama), and Dillon Gabriel (Oregon).

Nico has better odds than Garrett Nussmeier (LSU), Jaxson Dart (Ole Miss), Cade Klubnik (Clemson), Drew Allar (Penn State), Will Rogers (Washington), and Riley Leonard (Notre Dame).

The situation is certainly favorable for Nico to be a factor in the Heisman conversation. He has undeniable talent and he had a great showing in his start — which came against one of the top defenses in college football. And he plays in an offense that's known for putting up huge numbers.

But a lot will have to go right for Nico to stay in that conversation throughout the 2024 season — including several things outside of his control (such as health and performance of teammates).

Some might suggest it's too early to bestow this level of hype on Nico. But in this new world of college football, it's become customary for elite quarterback recruits to join this conversation early in their careers. Essentially, when you sign one of the top high school quarterbacks in the nation to a big NIL deal, a return on investment is expected by year two.
