Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper is taking a different approach to his head coaching search than in years prior.
Tepper has hired the consulting firm Sportsology, led by Mike Forde, a former executive with Chelsea FC, according to Joe Person of The Athletic.
It is a move that finally admits Tepper made some shortsighted hires when he went out and landed Matt Rhule and Frank Reich. Those were searches conducted within the organization.
Tepper has been unable to retain a long-lasting head coach since he purchased the team in 2018.
When he hired Rhule, it led to disaster. The college coach had no NFL experience and quickly burned his bridges with players before returning to the college ranks.
Then came Reich. He was supposed to lead a new offensive-first-oriented Panthers team, but that didn't work. Carolina boasted one of the worst offenses in the NFL and Reich was canned before the team could earn its second win of the season.
With the hire of an outside firm, maybe Tepper will finally take someone's advice when it comes to bringing in top coaching talent.
NFL shows it could care less about Panthers dysfunction with latest act
The NFL fined Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper a measly $300,000 Tuesday.
