The Buffalo Bills were flat in all three phases for most of the game and it proved costly as they fell to the New England Patriots in a crushing defeat, especially when you consider it was to a division rival.
Buffalo could get virtually nothing going in the first half and that carried over until late in the fourth quarter when it seemed like the team remembered how to play football. Josh Allen found Stefon Diggs for a circus-like touchdown.
It was up to the defense to step up to the plate and shut down the Patriots. Rhamondre Stevenson took a pass for 30 yards and then the penalty flag flew. It appeared that there was an illegal man downfield for the Patriots, but the officials decided to pick up the flag.
This has to be called, in this stage of the game, with such a crucial play from the Patriots. It's clear that David Andrews is down the field, further than he's allowed to be, but the referees didn't make the call. Buffalo lucked out last week against the Giants with a controversial no-call late in the game, it appears the Patriots got away with one this week.
A few plays later, the Patriots found the back of the endzone and Buffalo didn't have enough time to answer with a score of their own, giving Buffalo the loss and yet another performance that left much to be desired for a team with Super Bowl aspirations.
Now, you cannot rest on the referees as the Bills did plenty to lose this game, but that one call proved costly, and it wasn't even the worst call of the contest. I previously wrote about early in the first half how the Bills had a touchdown negated on yet another controversial call from the referees.
Buffalo didn't have any answers, and they've looked flat-out ugly over the past few weeks. Something has to give and this team just needs to find a way to improve. A rough day for the Bills Mafia.
Bills’ touchdown was negated on one of the worst calls we’ve ever seen
The Buffalo Bills found the endzone on an impressive play from Josh Allen, and then the penalty flag came in.
