The Kansas City Chiefs escaped their Week 7 win over the Los Angeles Chargers with one major injury, and now we've got an update on that injury.
Chiefs LB Nick Bolton suffered a dislocated wrist according to HC Andy Reid. The injury knocked him out with just over six minutes remaining in the team's Week 7 game. It's the second injury that will cause Bolton to miss time this season after he missed three games with an ankle sprain earlier in the year.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport appeared on "The Insiders" on NFL Plus, providing the latest update on the injury.
"Nick Bolton. . . he suffered a dislocated wrist during the game," Rapoport said. "We will see what this means, though. Now, first of all, he's expected to miss some time with this injury, no surprise there. He's going to have an MRI, that's going on today. He's also going to be evaluated by hand surgeons to see if he needs surgery. Obviously, if he does need surgery, he would be out for a somewhat extended period of time. We should have more clarity tonight."
No matter what transpires here, Bolton is set to miss some time. I'm told Bolton suffered a lunate dislocation, which is considered the most serious type of dislocation and sprain. If the MRI reveals ligament damage and there are any accompanying breaks, he could require surgery and be shut down. He could even be placed on IR until practically the playoffs with this type of injury. The team will do more testing to see the outlook long term, but the bottom line is that Bolton will miss some time with this injury.
Right now, the team's free agent acquisition of Drue Tranquill is looking to be one of the best moves of the 2023 NFL offseason for Kansas City. There was very little drop-off at the linebacker position when Bolton was out earlier with his ankle sprain.
