NASHVILLE — According to a report from Ian Rapoport, Tennessee Titans safety Kevin Byard is being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Dianna Russini was first on the compensation heading back to Tennessee in the deal. The Titans are getting a 2024 5th-round pick, 2024 6th-round pick, and 26-year-old safety Terrell Edmunds in return.

Byard, a third-round draft pick in the 2016 NFL Draft out of Middle Tennessee State, played 120 games in the two-tone blue.

As much as it hurts for the fans, moving on from Byard makes a lot of sense for the Titans at this juncture. Tennessee is 2-4, in last place in the AFC South, and in need of future draft capital.

Byard is making $11.27 million against the cap in 2023 and is a free agent at the end of the 2023 season. If the Titans were in first place with their defense firing on all cylinders, Byard wouldn't be going anywhere. But unfortunately, Titans GM Ran Carthon needs to consider what's best for the franchise long term. With the way the Titans have played this season, their issues may be bigger than a player of Byard's caliber can overcome.

Kevin Byard, a.k.a "The Mayor of Murfreesboro", will be remembered as an all-time Titans great both on and off the field. He has been exceptional to the media members every day and has poured into the community of fans around him  in the Nashville area.
