A new chapter with the Kansas City Chiefs means a new jersey number for WR Mecole Hardman.

The former second-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft had previously worn the No. 17 jersey in Kansas City, but that number is currently worn by WR Richie James, who is on injured reserve. James is not allowed to switch his jersey number midseason, even while on injured reserve. So going back to No. 17 wasn't an option for Hardman once he was traded back to the Chiefs

He couldn't go with his college jersey number worn as a member of the Georgia Bulldogs either. That's because rookie WR Rashee Rice wears No. 4. Instead, Hardman went with a jersey number recently vacated by WR Montrell Washington

Arrowhead Pride's Pete Sweeney posted a picture of Hardman wearing his new jersey number from Thursday's portion of practice open to media members.

It'll be an adjustment seeing Hardman in a new number, but a former Chiefs teammate who wore the No. 12 approves of Hardman's choice.

Hopefully, the jersey number will signify a successful new beginning for Hardman in Kansas City after a brief stay with the New York Jets to start the 2023 NFL season. Injuries limited the wideout during his 2022 campaign, but a healthy Hardman could be just the spark that the Chiefs' offense needs moving forward.
