It was a rough day in the Pacific Northwest for the Arizona Cardinals, who fell to the Seattle Seahawks 20-10 on Sunday afternoon at Lumen Field.
It was a particularly rough day for Josh Dobbs and the Cardinals' offense. Dobbs completed 19 of 33 attempts for 146 yards with a 25-yard rushing score. He was sacked four times, hit three more, and pressured a total of 15 times.
And it was a fellow former Tennessee Volunteer that turned out to be his primary harasser.
Seattle LB Darrell Taylor filled the stat sheet at Dobbs' expense, recording 3 tackles, 2 QB hits, 1.5 sacks, another tackle for loss, and a pass breakup. He met LB Jordyn Brooks at Dobbs for a shared sack in the second half. He also helped stifle the Cardinals' final drive by tripping up Dobbs for a 12-yard sack.
Taylor was drafted by the Seahawks in the second round of the 2020 draft, but missed the 2020 season due to injury. He's come on strong as a reserve edge rusher, tallying 6.5 and 9.5 sacks in his first two seasons (2021-2022), respectively, in only 8 combined starts. At Tennessee (2015-2019), Taylor totaled 118 tackles, 26.5 tackles for loss, 19.5 sacks in 43 games. He finished his senior year in Knoxville second in the SEC with 8.5 sacks.
It's been a slow start to 2023 for Taylor, whose 1.5 sacks last Sunday were his first in 6 games this season for the Seahawks. However, there's no doubt that Taylor made a huge impact in the game, which could be a springboard for the rest of the season for him.
Dobbs probably wishes that take off happened the next week.
