The 49ers won't have Randy Gregory available to face his former team the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football, but Austin Bryant will get a chance to impress after he was elevated from the practice squad for the primetime clash.

Gregory was traded from the Broncos to the 49ers on Friday. However, he flew back to Denver after passing a physical to meet with his family. He will return to the Niners on Monday ahead of an anticipated debut in Week 6 against the Browns.

San Francisco released veteran Kerry Hyder Jr. to make room for Gregory on the 53-man roster, and Bryant is poised to fill the void left by his fellow former Detroit Lion in the biggest game of San Francisco's season so far.

Bryant has not played since the Niners' season-opening 30-7 win over the Steelers, in which he registered two pressures, per Pro Football Focus.

Cornerback Sheffield was signed to the practice squad last week and was immediately elevated for the 35-16 win over the Cardinals.

His second successive elevation would indicate that veteran Anthony Brown, who was inactive last week, is again unlikely to play. Brown tore his Achilles last season in his final year with the Cowboys.
