Kentucky Wildcats head coach Mark Stoops made life more difficult for the six teams that still have to play the Georgia Bulldogs this season.
Everyone knows that Georgia head coach Kirby Smart loves to use perceived slights — no matter how real they actually are — to motivate his team.
And Stoops gave him some material on Monday night during his weekly call-in show.
The longtime Kentucky head coach said that Georgia "bought some pretty good players" while urging fans to donate (presumably so Kentucky can do the same).
Georgia beat Kentucky 51-13 this past weekend in Athens.
After looking vulnerable for the first month of the season, Georgia looked like they hit their stride on Saturday against the Wildcats — which I think everyone assumed they would at some point this season.
The teams that still have to play Georgia this season — which includes the Florida Gators, the Ole Miss Rebels, and the Tennessee Vols — have to be looking at Stoops while thinking "geez, thanks a lot for giving the defending two-time national champs some bulletin board material".
Coaches making accusations of other program "buying players" during the NIL era is something that's become very common over the last couple of years. And in most instances, those coaches aren't wrong. And Stoops likely isn't wrong, either. Georgia is taking care of their players via NIL deals just like every other major program is these days. But the thing with Georgia is that if everything is equal, they're still going to come out on top right now when it comes to recruiting. That's one of the perks of being on top of the college football world.
I'm sure Kirby will use this in the locker room to get his players going for the second half of the season (not that they need it, but an edge is an edge and Smart would be foolish not to use it).
Stoops didn't do anyone any favors by taking a shot at Georgia after getting completely blown out. And now the rest of the SEC will have to deal with a pissed-off Bulldogs team in the second half of the season.
