The Pittsburgh Steelers may have come away with a win on Sunday vs. Baltimore, but it was anything but pretty.
The offense was once again lifeless for about three and a half quarters until Pickett to Pickens started to heat up.
And speaking of heating up, that was reportedly the status of the temperature on Matt Canada's hot seat, until Sunday cooled things down:
Canada's Safe…For Now
Per Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh, Canada is safe through the bye week, giving him more time to try and produce a better product. If this seems par for the course, then you would typically be right, except NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported something different before the Ravens game:
Steelers offensive coordinator Matt Canada and Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael have received the support of their head coaches publicly. But if production doesn't ramp up, their respective seats will be hot, based on conversations with sources close to the situation.
– Ian Rapoport, NFL Media
Well, Canada's seat probably should have been hot this time last year, but that conversation has been had plenty of times already. The fact that Pittsburgh would actually consider making an in-season change is notable, however.
The problem is, games like Sunday are of a perfect storm of heartburn and anxiety for Steelers fans, and the continuation of playcalling for Canada.
The worst thing that can happen is Pittsburgh wins despite being horrible on offense, something that just occurred, and will likely continue given the level of defensive intensity and what the offense has shown to this point.
So we'll see how things go. Simply fixing the offense to the point that they can execute at a high level is the answer that everyone involved wants, but that ship may have sailed. Hopefully the extra time before the Rams game helps though.
