The Carolina Panthers' four-year, $25 million free agency acquisition Miles Sanders took another blow Wednesday.

Ahead of a busy day prepping for a matchup with the 4-1 Miami Dolphins, Panthers head coach Frank Reich said Sanders won't practice because of a shoulder injury sustained in a Week 5 loss to the Detroit Lions.

“Miles came out of the game with a little something,” Reich said. “So, we’ll see how he progresses this week. Miles is a pretty tough guy. So, I’m not pre-determining anything at this point. But I don’t mind telling you, I don’t think Miles is going to practice today.

“So, Raheem [Blackshear] will get some looks today. Be an opportunity, and we’ll just play that out during the week. Miles may be back, he may not be back. Not sure yet.”

Sanders was supposed to be the running back to help take the Panthers' offense to the next level. However, he has gotten off to a slow start. His game has been a stark contrast from the running back he was last season with the Philadelphia Eagles.

So far on the season, Sanders has rushed for 190 yards on 61 carries with one touchdown. With him sitting out, that gives Blackshear a chance to get some looks he would not normally receive during the day-to-day operations.
